Chills

What is Chills?

Chills are a team of paranormal investigators travelling up and down the country seeking out spectral phenomena. Amongst our team members are a renowned psychic medium and a prominent research historian; as well as experienced paranormal and parapsychological investigators led by our enigmatic and charismatic host.   We've been doing this work for many years in a variety of locations ranging from private homes to public houses encompassing stately homes and everywhere in between.

Our aim is to seek out any point of spritual interest, lift the veil between the physical and spritual planes and look behind to communicate with spirits and discover any supporting historical evidence whilst using scientific instruments and any technological tools at our disposal. This will enable us to provide physical proof of the spirit realm through captured sounds and images.

Episode 1: Clapham

Curtis’s Experience

As the host of chills I walk into every investigation with an open mind, do I believe in ghosts? Do I believe in demonics? Do I believe that Alessandro will turn up to the next investigation? All fair questions.

Clapham was just any other investigation for me, we have got the medium Dave guiding us through and contacting the world that we cannot see, Daniel who confirms all the historical fact surrounding the site and Alessandro using his equipment to look for the easiest way of escape.  When Dave started to link in and contacted the demonic forces I wondered if I would have to interview some unseen being this evening.

Being the presenter of Chills, I am probably more in the firing line than anyone else, and trust me standing next to Alessandro brings a different element of danger, as you will see in the clip.

David’s Experience

Approaching Clapham Wood I knew that we would be dealing with dark forces, I knew then straight away that not only would I have to call upon all our skills to protect the team, but also all the skills I have used in the past to help me out with dealing with any potential threats. As I reached the clearing that we had decided to set up camp, I had this overwhelming feeling of fear possible incitement and willingness from outside forces who wanted to communicate with me; they knew that chills had arrived.

As the rest of the team set up I took a walk around the woods to familiarise myself with the area, this is when I encountered the man in black, the highwayman, Jack. As the veil between the two worlds was lifted and my mind and his spirit met, I knew we were up for a challenge. The spiritual struggle that I had to endure throughout the investigation will be seen clearly, but Jack knew that I was there not only to communicate with the other spirits in the woods, but also to challenge his presence.  At one stage, Jack started to win the battle and try to overcome my senses and also endanger the rest of the team.

This spiritual battlefield of Clapham Woods, which had many spirits who wanted to engage with me gave me an overwhelming sense of sadness and also fear. The sadness was when I encountered a lady who was brutally murdered whilst with child with screams of agony reverberating in my soul. By contrast, the additional elements brought in by the demonic forces that were trying to create havoc and neutralise our presence. Demonic forces are the masters of their own domain and they don't like to be challenged...my presence did exactly that.

As the invisible dark fog engulfed our presence I could see the battlegrounds being drawn between good versus evil, dark versus light. Is Clapham the beginning of a journey that could take us into the realms of the unknown?

Daniel’s Experience

Clapham Wood from my point of view was certainly intriguing. It is an ancient site that has thousands of years of human history to contend with but one that has only risen to prominence in the last four decades. Myth and intrigue surrounds this site and before we even went I knew it would be a good investigation and once we arrived I knew it would be an interesting evening.

On arrival in the village we parked the cars as near to the wood as possible and then had a bit of the walk carrying all the equipment and everything else to the spot we had decided to set up base. Even though it was daylight still there was a certain sense you got from the wood, it was almost as if you were being watched combined with an air of hostility. There was defiantly something very eerie about these woods.

I knew that the rest of the team had been in these woods on the previous day to try and capture anything and had come up with enough interesting data to peak our interests and have a full blown investigation. From my point of view I knew of the history and folklore surrounding the woods and its demonic connections, but none of the others did, so it was with a sense of trepidation that we begun the evenings works.

Almost immediately after setting up base we had to contend with unknown forces in the form of our path markers being moved. Alessandro had set up markers on the paths so we could find our way back in the pitch black, but one in particular that he attached to a tree securely just refused to stay up. Fortunately for Alex he is the only one with a pair of night vision goggles so he is able to see into the woods, the rest of us had to grope blindly especially when the torches started to fail which certainly added to its oppressive sense.

The information the David was picking up on was enough to add more to our sense of foreboding. I was unsure what exactly he would pick up on, but one thing is for certain, straight away he picked up on demonic activity there. I think the whole team by this stage was feeling nauseous, interestingly something that is often associated by many to go into the woods, also at one point I just couldn't stop coughing for no apparent reason.

Although David didn’t pick up on all of the history surrounding the woods, I didn’t expect him to. No one would be able to tell you all of its three thousand year history, but what he did pick up on was the main things that seem to have been reported about this place. Virtually all that he said I could confirm from a historical and factual sense, even one report that had taken me many weeks of searching to find.

Clapham Woods certainly has all aspects key to a good investigation and one that I feel would constitute a revisit to see what other paranormal activity we can pick up on.

Alessandro’s Experience

My reluctance to attend this gathering was documented right from the start. The previous night there was a frank discussion with the team and I made my feelings abundantly known. The fear and evil that I felt that night, I knew I didn’t want to be there. But being a part of the chills team, and the investigation I had taken extra protection by taking my crucifix, by going to confession and seeing a priest. I knew that if my time had come that I would go with a clean soul. When I reached the clearing where we were going to set up, that cloud of fear descended upon me and I could feel a chill running down my spine. This fear grew worse when I was setting up our exit points and our glow lights were ripped out the tree several times.

As the evening progressed, my technical equipment gave me a sense that we were dealing with strong forces. At one point the EMF (Electromagnetic Field Reader) had the back ripped out of it. I always get the sensation on these investigations that the spirits and demons prey on the weakest member. No amount of praying or faith will stop this darkness descending upon me. Later on towards the end of the evening while I was staring intensely into the woods with my night vision goggles, I saw a force starting right back at me. That was it!  Alessandro was going to be turning his heals and running, and that's what I did. Like the Greek God Icarus, my wings lifted me to safety and back to base camp.

I couldn’t pack my stuff away quick enough, and as the rest of the team tried to reassure me that we were safe I knew that there was no hiding place from the demons that constantly haunt me.

Episode 2: Binsted

Curtis’s Experience

With Clapham still fresh in my mind I reluctantly stepped into the Binsted investigation. As I drove up to Binsted the open road suddenly just closed as if someone had drawn a curtain. I then knew that chills was stepping into another realm. Although every forest and wood looks similar, standing next to Dave when he describes what he hears and sees the landscape quickly changes. I get a heavy feeling that finally we will come face to face with spirit.

As the investigation continues I get drawn further and further into the darkness, and wonder will I see what Dave sees?  Will I feel what Dave feels? Or will my fear overtake my senses and drive me out of the forest?

David’s Experience

During my investigation at Clapham I held back from the team some information that was given to me.  My spiritual guides were pointing me in a westerly direction.  As I travelled west I was drawn to an area known as Binsted.  As I marched purposefully towards the pond I knew the team had to be here to continue the investigation.

Initially on investigations I am always prepared to face evil and protect the team, but my initial contact was with children that were playing happily and enjoying their natural surroundings.  When part of the team arrived the atmosphere changed.  As the evening progressed I felt up a build up of bad negative energy.

Suddenly, it was like as if someone had turned the lights off, the forest canopy was closing in on us and the sense of danger that had been engulfing my psyche was coming out to the rest of the team.  I usually rely on my sense to help me through the investigation, but the overwhelming spiritual activity that descended upon us was clouding my judgement.

As I stood silently deciphering all the information in my head I suddenly heard screams, were they screams of spirits, were they screams of the demonics or were they screams of danger?

Daniel’s Experience

Having been to Clapham the previous week I thought that I had prepared myself for this investigation...how wrong could I be.  This wood felt nothing like Clapham with its darkness and foreboding feelings.  It seemed much more tranquil and even thought you could certainly sense a presence there it wasn’t fearful.  That is until we ventured near the Madonna Pond.\

Having arrived in daylight it helped us gradually adjust to the sense of mystery surrounding the place.  As night drew in we did pick up some interesting readings in the form of temperature differentiations but unfortunately, Alessandro was detained and had arranged to meet us larger so we couldn’t record as much as we would have liked.

David picked up on most of the spirit and historical events associated with the place virtually straight away, including many things I never expected, the pottery association, for example.

Around midnight we decided to split up and investigate in teams with me and Curtis in one team.  In truth we didn’t get to venture very far before we started to hear some very deep and guttural sounds which we couldn’t quite make out.  However, it was enough to make us run back to base!

Once back with all our senses heightened and feeling slightly on edge it didn’t take much to frighten us, and that’s exactly what happened.  We saw some lights in the distance and voices so we nervously walked to the Madonna Pond to see what it was.  I am not exactly sure what happened but the next things I knew is that we were running, running back to the cars through dense woodland with little light to show our way.  Let’s just say I wasn’t the only one who was attacked by stray branched that night...

Alessandro’s Experience

One of my functions at chills is to attend other locations for technical set up.  I then suddenly received a call from the team that they were on an investigation and they needed additional support.  As I rushed to the scene many scenarios were playing through my mind, I did not have the chance to go to church to get my cross, to go to confession so I felt that I was going unprotected.  When I arrived it was the dead of night, I apprehensively stepped out of the car and went in search of the team. With the little information that was provided to me, with no mobile phone signal, I stood alone and in fear.

I made my way to the pond.  As I stood there shouting and frantically waving my torch for any indication of life a dark fear descended upon me.  Was I the only one left from chills?  Would I be the only one left standing against the dark forces?  Would I see the dawn of a brand new morning?

A gifted and talented clairvoyant, David has been called upon to use his natural talents to assist with paranormal investigations including spirit activities and hauntings. His involvement with paranormal investigations began eight years ago when he was asked to help move on a grounded spirit who was haunting a family home. From this it expanded and he became one of the founding members of the Chills team, which has now grown and grown in reputation, and now includes supporting team members, each a specialist in their own fields.

Daniel Harrison MA, BA (Hons)

One of the key roles on the Chills team is to provide historical insight and context to the information that David, the medium, receives.  Whilst it can be a challenging role, it is also one that often proves fulfilling.

Daniel has always had a passion for history and, although he studied it extensively at school, he was unsure at first how to apply this to a career. After leaving school he took three years out in order to gain some valuable experience in life as well as in a number of professional roles. However, Daniel always ended up returning to his love of history.

When he returned to academia he studied for a foundation degree in modern history focussing upon British history over the past 350 years. Progressing from this he gained a graduate degree in history, with an emphasis on the socio-cultural and how to deconstruct surroundings and objects, no matter what they are. Once interpreted, these can reveal a tantalising and valuable insight into the individual as well as the role that they played into society as a whole.  For his post graduate degree Daniel expanded these themes and decided to specialise in the 19th and early 20th century in terms of Empire and how this related to the world at large.  His research in this field led to him presenting his work and its theories at various seminars and symposia.

Both during and after his university years he worked extensively as a historical researcher in many archives as well as in various private capacities.  This has enabled him to expand his knowledge to many differing areas of research and history. Daniel’s various degrees and years of experience in the field have granted him a wide spread of knowledge in many areas of history, and the object based analysis learnt at University enables him to make quick judgements about information provided - as you’ll see on screen.

Alessandro La Peruta

Alex is Chills’ tech guy. Mr Gadget, as he is known within the team, is sent in to back up our medium and try and catch the uncatchable on film, in picture and in sound. He comes fully loaded with monitoring equipment and well as state-of-the-art cameras that will try to outwit any phenomena.

Alex also comes with one piece of equipment that no other ghosts hunter has…his trusted cross. You see, Alex is a fully blown Catholic and believes he can ward off Ghouls and Ghosts with his holy cross, he also has holy water and a prey book, so you could say that he has got it all covered. As part of the Chills team, we all face everything together and, when we find ourselves in scary situations, it can be guaranteed that Alex's reaction will bring a smile to us all and cause some hysterical moments that we cherish.

With centuries of faith resting on Alex`s shoulders, he has a big responsibility within the team. Since he has been a ghost hunter, demons have played a large part of his life: as a small boy living in Italy he remembers seeing a demon-like figure that appeared in front of him. This left a large, open scar to which Alex has tried to seek the answer. The void this encounter created for Alex has left him looking for answers to his own questions of what is above and below. Will he find and meet his demon? Will he lay to rest the battle he has been fighting between good and evil?

Tune in to find out and be part of the journey.
